Glade air freshener

Are you looking for an air freshener to slay bad odors and induce freshness into your room? Aren’t the products you have been using invigorating enough? Let’s help you find out if Glade air freshener can efficiently eliminate unpleasant odors.

Glade is a worldwide brand owned by SC Johnson of the USA. It is one of the most popular air freshener products in America and many other countries. The brand is also known as Gleid and Brise in some parts of the world.

What does Glade do?

Glade air freshener is aimed at replacing staunch odors with pleasant fragrances. Its range of products can be used in homes, cars, commercial establishments, and industries.

Some of the chief ingredients of the product are water, sorbitan oleate, sodium phosphate, steartrimonium chloride, propylene glycol, isobutane, propane, and fragrance.

The air fresheners come in a plethora of fragrances – like apple cinnamon, peach, lavender, lemon, cherry, vanilla, passion fruit, sea salt, rose, waterlily, and watermelon.

How does Glade air freshener work?

Glade air freshener is advertised as a deodorizer and an air freshener. It disperses the fragrance slowly and continuously. The way the product works also depends on its type.

Here’s a look at the different forms of Glade air fresheners and how each of them works.

Is Glade air freshener a disinfectant?

Most disinfectants work as air fresheners. However, the contrary is not true. Glade air freshener does not have antibacterial properties. To work as a disinfectant, the following ingredients must be present:

  • Alcohol
  • Peracetic acid
  • Glutaraldehyde
  • Idophors
  • Chlorine and chlorine compounds

Glade does not contain these chemicals and is hence not a disinfectant. However, a different product called the Glade Surface Disinfectant and Air Sanitizer contains triethylene glycol, n-alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium saccharinate, and ethanol that have antimicrobial properties.

These chemicals help Glade kill viruses, and odor-causing bacteria as well. Glade thus serves as an air sanitizer besides making the air more fragrant.

Can you use Glade to remove bad smells?

Bad odor can be due to many reasons. In homes, stinky smells could arise from undone dishes, garbage, laundry, uncleaned carpets, furniture, shoes, bathroom, unwashed sheets, poor ventilation, clogged-up air conditioners, and dust. Some types of bacteria also exude gaseous molecules that can cause a bad smell.

In commercial buildings and industries, poor ventilation, dirty air conditioners, sewer lines, toilets, carpets, dust, sweat, and bacteria from people, furniture, garbage, and chemicals result in bad odor.

Glade air freshener does not act as an air purifier. It does not remove the odor-causing bacteria, nor does it block odor molecules. The product also does not eliminate air pollutants. The fragrances of air freshener only mask the bad smell. You are tricked into detecting the smell of gas molecules that hover in the air. Once the gas molecules of the freshener fade away, you start to smell the bad odor of the room again.

Furthermore, if the bad odor in the room is stauncher than the fragrance – then, the air freshener will not be able to mask it.

Can you spray Glade on clothes and furniture?

It is not a good idea to use air freshener on clothes and furniture. The chemical ingredients can stain the clothes and furniture – and also get absorbed and stick to them. This will not only damage your clothes and furniture but can also get onto your skin when you come in contact with it.

Further, read the instructions for use on product labeling. Follow as directed.

How long does Glade air freshener last?

This largely depends on the type of the air freshener used. Solid and plugin fresheners release fragrance continuously, thus masking bad odor all the time. Aerosol sprays, candles, and wax melts have a limited span. Their fragrance will dwindle out when the gas molecules in the air fade out or when the candle stops burning.
