Is Glade air freshener a disinfectant?
Most disinfectants work as air fresheners. However, the contrary is not true. Glade air freshener does not have antibacterial properties. To work as a disinfectant, the following ingredients must be present:
- Alcohol
- Peracetic acid
- Glutaraldehyde
- Idophors
- Chlorine and chlorine compounds
Glade does not contain these chemicals and is hence not a disinfectant. However, a different product called the Glade Surface Disinfectant and Air Sanitizer contains triethylene glycol, n-alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium saccharinate, and ethanol that have antimicrobial properties.
These chemicals help Glade kill viruses, and odor-causing bacteria as well. Glade thus serves as an air sanitizer besides making the air more fragrant.
Can you use Glade to remove bad smells?
Bad odor can be due to many reasons. In homes, stinky smells could arise from undone dishes, garbage, laundry, uncleaned carpets, furniture, shoes, bathroom, unwashed sheets, poor ventilation, clogged-up air conditioners, and dust. Some types of bacteria also exude gaseous molecules that can cause a bad smell.
In commercial buildings and industries, poor ventilation, dirty air conditioners, sewer lines, toilets, carpets, dust, sweat, and bacteria from people, furniture, garbage, and chemicals result in bad odor.
Glade air freshener does not act as an air purifier. It does not remove the odor-causing bacteria, nor does it block odor molecules. The product also does not eliminate air pollutants. The fragrances of air freshener only mask the bad smell. You are tricked into detecting the smell of gas molecules that hover in the air. Once the gas molecules of the freshener fade away, you start to smell the bad odor of the room again.

Can you spray Glade on clothes and furniture?
